- Mrs. Caroline Bittiker, known to her many friends as "Grandma" Bittiker, passed away Wednesday, October 16, 1918, at the home of her son, Joseph Bittiker, at Mendon, death resulting from troubles incident to extreme age.
Caroline Spellman was born in Minden, Germany, July 31, 1833, and at the time of her death was aged 85 years, two months, and 16 days. She came to this country in the autumn of 1852, and a short time later was united in marriage to Henry Nolting, to which union five children were born, namely, William, Henry, Louis and Gus Nolting, and one boy who died in infancy.
Following the death of her first husband, she was married a second time, May 2, 1862, to Joseph Bittiker, who preceded her to the grave December 21st, 1907.
Five children were born of this union, namely,
Mrs. James Goodbar and John Bittiker of Carroll County,; Mrs. John Goodbar of Excelsior Springs, Mr. J. H. Bittiker of Mendon, Mo., and Mrs. Wm. Hook, who died a number of years age. She leaves thirty grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services: Thursday morning, 10 o'clock at the Christian Church, Mendon.
Burial: DeWitt Cemetery (Evergreen). [9]
